Popoara Ocean Breeze Villas
Popoara Ocean Breeze Villas is a small resort built on the eastern tip of Aitutaki's main island and on family land with ownership dating back twenty-eight generations. The area and Popoara Ocean Breeze Villas are named after the landing of the famous navigator and explorer Ru who first landed and settled Aitutaki with four younger brothers and twenty young maidens. Night was coming on when they made their way through the passage. At the time it was full moon (Ootu in the local language) so the passage was named Ootu. The landing site and passage entry is right at our beachfront, and as the canoe was stranded in the shallow water on a coral patch, Ru sent his men to cut pandanus logs to haul the canoe to safety, hence the name Popoara. Popo meaning trunks and Ara the local name for the pandanus trees.
Each Villa has it's own decking and modern outdoor furniture where you can relax looking into our gardens or you can stroll about 70 metres down to the Popoara beach front and watch the ocean and coastal lagoon from the shade of our beach hut. The lagoon in this area is a marine reserve so there is a good range of tropical fish to be seen.
In season, it is also common to see whales just offshore - a special experience.
The Viilas are all modern and self-contained, cooled by the ocean breeze and set amongst gardens focused on the local flora with the pandanus trees taking centre stage. The villas are built with the latest materials and methods to be environmentally friendly without any loss of comfort to our guests. All villas are 100% insulated and insect screened.
