Captains Retreat

Captains Retreat

Situated on the north side of Rarotonga, Capitan's Retreat was initially the home of our locally famous ship owner and author, Captain Don Silk. This spacious 'bachy' home, lO metres from the beach, opens onto a large verandah providing you with a breath-taking view of the lagoon, the reef and the vast ocean beyond - just the way the Captain ordered. With this awesome view, dining at the Captains Table on the verandah or out by the BBQ area by the pool is idyllic, whether it's a barbie-brekkie at sunrise or an all out cocktail and dinner at sunset.
The lagoon is ideal for snorkelling at high tide, but the best bonus is being away from the crowds so you truly feel you're on retreat relaxing to the ultimate limit.
Four roomy bedrooms sleep up to 4 couples, 8 individuals or 2 big families (up to 10) comfortably. The main bedroom has an en suite and there's also a separate shower room and toilet. The kitchen is fully equipped; oven, cooktop, large fridge, plus a dishwasher to make life away from home a breeze.

From Capitan's Retreat, we are lOmins walk or 2min drive from town where you'll find supermarkets, pharmacies, craft shops, liquor stores, cafes and restaurants, a department store, banks and more. The market place on Saturday morning is a must-see. The airport is a 7min drive, the Golf Club another 5mins... club hire available. The local Fishing Club is just 50 metres away and welcomes visitors.

The spectacular Muri Lagoon is only a lOmin drive going eastwards. Here you can enjoy kayaking, snorkelling, sailing, canoeing, and the beachside cafes and restaurants.

There are numerous restaurants and cafes and heaps of things to do and places to see here on Rarotonga. Brochures, bus timetables and our personal recommendations are provided on arrival for almost every activity and restaurant. We fully recommend a day trip to Aitutaki, a true blue-lagoon experience you'll remember for a lifetime. You'll wish you were staying there longer.

Hey kids!
The beach is practically on the doorstep, great for exploring, building sandcastles and snorkelling.
At low tide, reef walks are the greatest way to discover what and how things live in your own lagoon. And wish for some rain, it's warm and such cool fun swimming in the pool when it's pouring!
A ten minute drive to Muri Lagoon will take you to the best spot for sailing, kayaking, canoeing, windsurfing or just discovering your own small island (motu). Help pack up a lunch and spend the day away.
